Before you start
AnyBucket talks to B2 through its S3-compatible API. You need:
- A bucket. Its details in the Backblaze web interface show an S3 endpoint such as
s3.us-west-004.backblazeb2.com. The part betweens3.and.backblazeb2.comis the region. - An application key that may read and write that bucket. Backblaze shows a keyID and an applicationKey; these are the access key ID and secret access key in S3 terms.
Create an application key
- Sign in to your Backblaze account and open the page for application keys.
- Add a new application key. Allow access to the one bucket you'll use, with read and write access.
- Create it and copy the keyID and the applicationKey. Backblaze shows the application key only once, so copy it before you leave the page.
Connect in AnyBucket
- Press ⇧⌘K (File → Connect to Server…).
- Under Cloud Storage, pick Backblaze B2.
- Type the bucket's region, such as
us-west-004. AnyBucket builds the endpointhttps://s3.us-west-004.backblazeb2.com. - Paste the keyID as the access key ID and the applicationKey as the secret access key. With Save Secret in Keychain on, it goes to your login keychain.
- Optionally type the bucket name and a nickname, then press Connect.
Back up a folder to B2
B2 is a common home for off-site backups. With AnyBucket:
- Put the folder from This Mac in one pane and the B2 bucket in the other.
- Press ⌥F5. Compare & Sync lists every file that's new, changed or missing on each side.
- Choose mirror to make the bucket match the folder, check the rows, and start it.
Large files go up in parts, and a dropped connection retries on a fresh one. If you quit AnyBucket, the queue picks up again at the next launch. See sync a folder with a server.
Move files to or from another provider
To move a bucket from Amazon S3, Wasabi or Cloudflare R2 to B2, or the other way, open one in each pane, mark the files and press F5 to copy or F6 to move. Files stream through a small spool on your Mac; you don't download anything by hand. See copy files between servers.
If it doesn't connect
- Access denied: the application key may be limited to another bucket, or be read-only.
- Nothing listed, or an error about the endpoint: check the region. It must match the bucket's own S3 endpoint.
- A transfer stopped: it waits under Needs attention in the Transfers window (⌥⌘T) with its error. See troubleshooting.
