Price

AnyBucket costs $9.99, once. One license covers two Macs, and there's no account to create.

Commander One has a free mode for dual-pane browsing, basic file operations and ZIP archives. The PRO Pack is a one-time payment: $29.99 for one Mac for personal, non-commercial use, or $99.99 for a team of five Macs. Electronic Team's pages describe an optional Lifetime Upgrades Guarantee add-on.

The same keys, aimed at servers

If you know Commander One, AnyBucket's keys feel familiar: F5 copies, F6 moves, F2 renames, F3 opens Quick Look, F4 edits, F7 makes a folder and F8 deletes. Space marks, ⇥ switches panes, and + and − mark and unmark by pattern.

AnyBucket adds ⌘K: a palette that finds bookmarks, recent folders and open tabs by a few letters of their name, or connects to a pasted sftp://, s3:// or davs:// address. ⌘G copies the marked files to any place you pick. See the keyboard.

Server to server

In AnyBucket each pane shows This Mac or any server, so two servers can sit side by side. On the same server the copy runs there: S3 CopyObject, WebDAV COPY, and cp over SSH when the SFTP account has a shell. Between two servers, files stream through a small, bounded spool on your Mac. Moves copy, verify, then delete. See server to server.

SSH like Terminal

Commander One describes public-key logins for SFTP. AnyBucket runs the ssh that comes with macOS, so whatever works with ssh user@host in Terminal works in AnyBucket: your agent, ~/.ssh/config with Host, IdentityFile and ProxyJump, and security keys. Host keys are checked against your own ~/.ssh/known_hosts. See SSH keys and jump hosts.

Transfers and sync

AnyBucket's queue retries transient failures on a fresh connection after 1, 3 and 8 seconds, and is saved as it runs, so it comes back after a relaunch. When a file is already there, choose replace, replace if newer, keep both, skip or resume, with apply to all. Press ⌥F5 to compare the two panes row by row, then mirror either way or sync both ways. See Compare & Sync.

Where Commander One shines

Commander One has a free mode, handles archives, comes with a built-in terminal and process viewer, and mounts iOS, Android and MTP devices. Electronic Team describes it as approved by Christian Ghisler as Total Commander for Mac.

Switching to AnyBucket

  1. Press ⇧⌘K for each server, or paste its address into the palette (⌘K) and press ⌥↩ to save it as a bookmark.
  2. SFTP hosts in your ~/.ssh/config work as they are, with the same keys.
  3. Your hands already know the rest: Space, ⇥, F5.

You can try it live in your browser first.
