# Which Macs and which servers

One universal app for macOS 15 and later, and the servers and storage providers it talks to.

## The short answer

- **Mac:** macOS 15 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel. One universal download for both.
- **Servers:** SFTP (OpenSSH), FTP and FTPS, Amazon S3 and S3-compatible stores, and WebDAV over HTTP and HTTPS.
- **Storage providers:** Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, DigitalOcean Spaces, Google Cloud Storage, MinIO and any other S3-compatible store by its endpoint.
- **FTPS only:** needs `python3` from Apple's Command Line Tools (`xcode-select --install`).

## Your Mac
| | |
| --- | --- |
| **macOS** | macOS 15 or later, up to macOS 27. Developed and verified on macOS 27. |
| **Apple silicon** | Runs natively. |
| **Intel** | Included in the same universal app. |
| **Appearance** | Light and dark, following your Mac. |
| **Languages** | 18, following your Mac's language. |

There's one download for every Mac. It's signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.

## Servers and protocols
| Protocol | What works |
| --- | --- |
| **SFTP** | OpenSSH servers. Password, keys, your SSH agent and `~/.ssh/config`, jump hosts included. Copies on the same server run there with `cp` when the account has a shell. |
| **FTP and FTPS** | Passive mode and explicit TLS. Self-signed certificates can be trusted for each bookmark. |
| **Amazon S3** | AWS and S3-compatible stores, with path-style or virtual-hosted addressing. Multipart uploads, and copies on the same server with CopyObject. |
| **WebDAV** | HTTP and HTTPS, Basic and Digest authentication. Copies and moves on the same server with COPY and MOVE. |

Any of them can sit in either pane, beside This Mac or beside another server, and files copy or move between any two.

## Storage providers
The connect sheet has a tile for each of these, with its own badge on tabs and in the palette:

- Amazon S3
- Cloudflare R2
- Backblaze B2
- Wasabi
- DigitalOcean Spaces
- Google Cloud Storage
- S3-compatible, for any other store by its endpoint URL, such as MinIO or LocalStack

Self-hosted stores like MinIO usually need **path-style addressing**: turn it on in the bookmark. Guides: [Amazon S3](https://anybucket.app/guides/s3-client-mac), [Cloudflare R2](https://anybucket.app/guides/cloudflare-r2-mac), [Backblaze B2](https://anybucket.app/guides/backblaze-b2-mac).

## What FTPS needs
AnyBucket runs FTPS's TLS through a small Python bridge, so FTPS needs `python3` from Apple's Command Line Tools. If you don't have them:

1. Open Terminal.
2. Run `xcode-select --install` and follow the prompts.
3. Connect again in AnyBucket.

SFTP, FTP, S3 and WebDAV need nothing extra. SFTP uses the `ssh` that comes with macOS.

## How it's tested
Every protocol is tested end to end against real servers: SFTP with a password and with keys only, FTP, FTPS, S3 and WebDAV with Basic and Digest logins. Each ordered pair, This Mac included, is copied and moved, and every byte is checked against its md5 checksum. Transfers are also interrupted on purpose and retried, so the queue's recovery is tested as well.

## Languages
AnyBucket speaks English, Čeština, Deutsch, Español, Français, Magyar, Italiano, 日本語, 한국어, Nederlands, Polski, Português (Brasil), Русский, Svenska, Türkçe, Українська, 简体中文 and 繁體中文. It follows your Mac's language.

## Questions, answered

### Does it run on Intel Macs?

Yes. Intel is included in the same universal app: AnyBucket is one download for Apple silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 15 or later.

### Which macOS do I need?

macOS 15 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.

### Does it work with my S3-compatible store?

If the store speaks the S3 API, add it with the **S3-compatible** tile and its endpoint URL. Turn on path-style addressing for MinIO, LocalStack and most self-hosted stores.

### Does SFTP work with my server?

AnyBucket works with OpenSSH servers and runs `/usr/bin/ssh`, so if `ssh user@host` works in Terminal, it works in AnyBucket. See [SSH keys and jump hosts](https://anybucket.app/guides/ssh-keys-and-jump-hosts).

### Why does FTPS need python3?

AnyBucket runs FTPS's TLS through a small Python bridge. Install Apple's Command Line Tools with `xcode-select --install` to get `python3`.
