# Every action, one key away

The commander keys you know, a ⌘K palette and a key for everything else. Every shortcut is in the menus too.

## Tabs, panes and workspaces

| `⌘T` | New tab |
| `⇧⌘T` | Reopen the closed tab |
| `⌘W` | Close the pane, then the tab |
| `⌥⌘W` | Close the tab |
| `⇧⌘W` | Close the window |
| `⌃⇥` | Next tab |
| `⌃⇧⇥` | Previous tab |
| `⌘1–9` | Go to tab 1 to 9 |
| `⌘\` | One pane or two |
| `⇧⌘\` | Swap the panes |
| `⌘E` | Zoom the pane |
| `⌘=` | Open the same folder in the other pane |
| `⇥` | Switch to the other pane |
| `←` `→` | Left pane, right pane |
| `⌥⌘S` | Save the tabs as a workspace |

## Moving around

Hold ⇧ with the arrow keys to extend the marks.

## Marking files

| `Space` | Mark or unmark, then move down |
| `⌘A` | Mark all |
| `⌘D` | Clear the marks |
| `+` | Mark by pattern, like *.jpg |
| `−` | Unmark by pattern |
| `esc` | Clear the marks, then the filter |

## File actions

## The palette

| `⌘K` | Go to… bookmarks, recent folders, open tabs or a server address |
| `⇧⌘K` | Connect to a server |
| `⌘G` | Copy the marked files to… a place you pick |
| `⌥⌘G` | Move the marked files to… a place you pick |

## Inside the palette

In Copy to and Move to mode, ↩ copies and ⌥↩ moves.

## F-keys on a laptop

**On a MacBook,** the top row controls brightness and sound until you hold **fn**. To use F1, F2 and the rest without fn, turn on **Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys** in **System Settings → Keyboard**.

**Settings → Keyboard → Show Function-Key Bar** shows the F-keys under the panes, so every action is a click away too.
