# No tracking, just the fine print

Last updated 2026-11-04. This policy covers the AnyBucket app and this website.

AnyBucket is a macOS app that copies and moves files between your Mac and your servers. It is made by Clever Mechanisms, an independent studio, and is not affiliated with Apple, Amazon or any storage provider.

## The short version

AnyBucket does not sell or share personal data. The app has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no account to create and no backend of its own. Your files go only to the servers you add. The app goes online for two other things, both described below: checking its license with Polar, and checking for a new version. This website counts visits anonymously.

## Network connections

The app connects only to:

- **The servers you add, and only those.** Files, folder listings and credentials go straight from your Mac to your server. Nothing passes through Clever Mechanisms.
- **Polar, to check your license.** At activation, at launch, when AnyBucket comes to the front and every 15 minutes, the app sends your license key, its activation ID and a random installation ID. Nothing about your servers or files, and never your Mac's name or hardware identifiers. After a successful check, AnyBucket works offline for up to seven days.
- **clevermechanisms.dev, once a day:** a plain request for AnyBucket's latest public version number. It carries nothing about you beyond what any web request does, such as your IP address. Turn it off under **Settings → General → Updates**.

## What the app stores, and where

Everything stays on your Mac:

- **Passwords and secret keys:** in your login keychain, one item per bookmark (`dev.rolottr.AnyBucket <id>`).
- **Your license:** in a device-only keychain item that doesn't sync (`dev.rolottr.AnyBucket.polar`).
- **Bookmarks, history, workspaces, the last session, pane pairs and the transfer queue:** JSON files in `~/Library/Application Support/AnyBucket/`.
- **SSH host keys:** your own `~/.ssh/known_hosts`, shared with Terminal.

Remove the app and these files to remove everything it kept. The keychain items can be deleted in Keychain Access.

## Data collected by the developer

From the app: no usage statistics, no crash reports beyond what you choose to share with Apple through macOS, and no hardware identifiers. Polar's license check, above, receives your license key and a random installation ID. Buying the app shares what's listed under Purchases.

## Purchases

Payments are processed by Polar. The developer receives your email address, country and order details to deliver and support your purchase, never your card details.

## Emailing support

If you email support, you decide what to send. Please never send passwords, secret keys or license keys.

## This website

This website sets no tracking cookies and, apart from Vercel Web Analytics, loads no third-party scripts. It remembers the language you choose in a cookie, and counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which is anonymous and cookieless: it records the page, referrer, country, browser, operating system and device type, recognizes a visit by a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, and stores no IP addresses. The site is served by Vercel, which processes standard request logs (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect it. The live demo runs entirely in your browser and connects to no server.
