# FTP and FTPS, without the fuss

The web host that still speaks FTP, the backup box that wants FTPS: connect, see the files side by side with your Mac, and copy with F5.

- **Passive mode:** AnyBucket connects in passive mode, which works through most firewalls and routers.
- **Explicit TLS:** FTPS encrypts the login and the files with explicit TLS on the usual FTP port.
- **Self-signed, trusted once:** For a self-signed certificate, AnyBucket asks once and remembers your answer for that bookmark.
- **Beside every other server:** Copy straight from FTP to S3, WebDAV or SFTP in one step.

## Questions, answered

### What do I need for FTPS?

`python3` from Apple's Command Line Tools: run `xcode-select --install` in Terminal once. AnyBucket runs its TLS through a small Python bridge.

### Is FTP safe to use?

Plain FTP sends the password and the files unencrypted. Use FTPS or SFTP whenever your server offers them.

### Can I upload to an FTP server?

Yes. Copy, move, rename, delete and make folders, like on any other server.
